Activities that you can enjoy as a family or alone while staying at The Sportsman's Lodge:

Hiking Trails near Big Diamond Pond: The Cohos Trail goes through Coleman State Park... South, you'll be headed to Dixville Notch where there are many scenic vistas (Huntington Falls at the Wayside Picnic Area, Table Rock, The Sanguinary Ridge Trail, plus many more...) If you take the trail north, you'll find many remote areas rarely traveled by bi-peds and this takes you towards the Ben Young Hill in Clarksville...if you are really adventurous, you can keep on going to the Canadian Border in Pittsburg...

Sailing on Big Diamond Pond: Just relax and enjoy a day sailing

Hunt for treasures: Look for where the moose and deer have yarded up for the winter...best to find antlers while the snow is melting, before they are bleached from the sun or eaten by the mice...Or take a ride up 'Moose Alley' in Pittsburg where the moose are plentiful especially in late May and June...Any of the side tote roads are exciting to explore looking for moose and bear...

Skiing: Ski at the Wilderness Ski Resort: Located in Dixville Notch...

Golfing: There is a golf course located at The Balsam's to the South, and also at The Colebrook Country Club, both on Rt. 26...(both within 1/2 hour driving time...)

Sightseeing: There are many places to go sightseeing in the North Country...All within the region...There's Beaver Brook Falls in Colebrook, Garfield Falls, Hellgate Falls, Dixville Notch, Moose Alley in Pittsburg, Sanguinary Ridge Trail, Magalloway Mountain, East Inlet, The Covered Bridges in Pittsburg, The Falls in the River, Rt. 145 from Colebrook to Pittsburg, etc...the scenic vistas in the North Country are too numerous to all be covered here...Haul out the maps and discover the North Country...

Biking: Less traffic in the North Country...Easier to enjoy those hilly terrains or the flatter roads around Colebrook...Note: Biking is not permitted on the logging roads because of the safety issue...

Birdwatching: Listen to the loons on the lake at night or see them in the daylight hours...Loons, hawks, pileated woodpeckers, eagles, various songbirds, owls, woodcock, partridge, etc...

Hunting: Wildlife is abundant in the North Country...deer, moose, partridge, bear, rabbit, etc...

Waterskiing: Waterskiing and Jetskiing is available on some of the many lakes and ponds in the North Country...

X-Country Skiing: There are commercial places to go X-Country ie: The Balsams in Dixville Notch, and there are the many hiking trails that can be skied in the winter...
