HISTORY
The Sportsman's Lodge history begins with the acquisition of land on Big Diamond Pond in the fall of 1938. A log cabin was built on the site in the summer of 1941. The current lodge structure was erected as a home in the summer of 1947. A dining room was added the following year and the Sportsman's Lodge was born.
Over the years, many additions and improvements have been made to the Lodge. The manufacture of snowmobiles and the grooming of snow machine trails in the winter of 1969 opened up a new era for the Sportsman's Lodge. The Balsams/Wilderness ski area opened in 1967 providing downhill and cross country skiing to the region.
Throughout the last 50 years the Sportsman's Lodge has become a full-service four-season resort known for its down home country dining and friendly atmosphere.
We welcome everyone to visit us during our sixth year of owning and operating The Sportsman's Lodge and Cabins. As we continue to change and improve the lodge, cabins, and grounds, we will continue to serve as a great year-round vacation place for the whole family!
